Amsterdam won't separate plastic wasteTuesday 07 April 2009 Amsterdam city council is refusing to cooperate with government plans to collect plastic waste separately, the Parool reported on Monday afternoon. Environment minister Jacqueline Cramer wants to introduce separate plastics collection from January 1, 2010. But Amsterdam says it plans to continue incinerating plastic waste because that is better for the environment. The city council will present a report on the environmental effect of separating plastic waste later this year, the paper says. In addition, the city council says that experiments in smaller local authority areas show few people are actually prepared to separate their waste. © DutchNews.nl Get the DutchNews.nl newsletter in your mailbox: Click here to subscribe
people separate their glass now, why wouldn't they separate plastic as well. Plastic is a much more serious pollution issue than even glass as it takes so long to break down and is manufactured from dangerous chemicals By mark | April 8, 2009 2:05 PM I come from Canada as an exchange student and I have been trying to figure out all year where to recycle small plastic bottles (and other plastics that are not accepted at local supermarkets). I was so surprised to find out that Amsterdam has not any system for recycling plastics... such a shame, and so unfortunate for the environment... By Anonymous | April 12, 2009 10:33 AM Why would every other community in Holland recycle plastic and not Amsterdam? I bring my small plastic bottles to work (outside of Amsterdam) in order to recycle them. It is shameful. By Emma | October 7, 2009 5:19 PM Place your comments: |

Burning plastic is better for the environment is better that recycling it? Are the politicians smoking something new? Could they be taking bribes from trash haulers? Something truly stinks here and it is NOT the burning plastic!
