Lack of teamwork bad for cancer patients
Cancer patients are at risk because medical specialists such as doctors, radiographers, oncologists and hospital staff do not work as a proper team, according to a report by the health inspectorate published on Thursday.
Often there is no coordination when it comes to treating people with cancer, leading to a lack of communication both among specialists and with the patient, the report says. This affects the quality of care and can threaten patients’ chances of recovery.
Healthcare organisations recognise the problem and share the view of the inspectorate that every cancer patient should be assigned one person to oversee their treatment plan, news agency ANP says.
