Fortis Holding books €28bn loss

Fortis Holding, the bourse-listed remains of the Fortis financial services group following its partial nationalisation and sale, booked a loss of €28bn last year, the company said in a statement on Tuesday.

The figure is higher than the €22.5bn loss the group said it had made a month ago. The loss is due to the €27.4bn lost on its ‘discontinued operations’ – the banking activities and Dutch insurance operations.
Fortis Holding now consists largely of insurance activities in Belgium and abroad and a number of investment portfolios.
