Crisis affects others, say young people

Monday 09 March 2009

Although half of the young people between the ages of 15 and 22 feel the current economic recession is serious, 60% say they are not personally affected, according to a survey by the youth ministry, reports the AD on Monday.

Over 70% of the 578 young people questioned believe it will be hard for those who have recently left school to find a job but are not worried about their own position.

Most of the young people said they are not prepared to lower the demands they have in terms of the job they want and only 25% are spending less as a result of the crisis.

Of the young people with a job, one-third is preparing for possible redundancy by saving or making plans to study.

Youth minister Andre Rouvoet has made youth unemployment a priority in the recession-busting measures currently being put together by the government.
