Groningen one of EU’s richest regions

The northern Dutch province of Groningen is the fifth-richest region in the European Union, according to the EU’s statistics office Eurostat.

But Eurostat estimates the province’s wealth by including the national income from its massive Slochteren natural gas reserves, news agency ANP points out.
London is the richest region in the EU. Other top rated Dutch regions are Utrecht (number 15) and Noord Holland (18).
