Father arrested for daughter’s circumcision
A 29-year-old man from Haarlem has been arrested for the circumcision of his five-year-old daughter, reports Trouw. It is the first time anyone in the Netherlands has faced prosecution for female circumcision, the paper says.
Female circumcision is illegal in the Netherlands. The man denies the allegation, the paper reports.
The Trouw reports that the man arrested is Moroccan but that female circumcision is extremely rare in Morocco.
The circumcision was discovered by the girl’s foster parents last autumn, the paper says.
