Double bonus for 500 ABN Amro bankers

Some 500 bankers at state-owned ABN Amro are to get double bonuses this year, personnel chief Robert Charlier said in an interview with the Volkskrant.
'We are talking about people who have been doing more than one job at the same time,' Charlier said. The exact size of the bonuses will be determined later this month.
Part of the reason for the double payout is the bonus system set up to try to keep key staff at the bank when it was taken over by a consortium of three banks in 2007, the paper says.
When ABN Amro was nationalised in October, finance minister Wouter Bos implicitly agreed to respect this arrangement, Charlier was quoted as saying.
In 2007, ABN Amro spent €2bn on bonuses, most of which went to staff at the merchant bank operations now owned by Royal Bank of Scotland, the Volkskrant said.
MPs from the left-wing green party Groenlinks and the anti-immigration PVV have called for an emergency debate on the bonuses.
