Maritime sector wants €10m aid

Wednesday 21 January 2009

The Dutch maritime sector is asking the government for €10m in financial help now the recession is having an adverse effect on its business, says news agency ANP on Wednesday.

The Dutch ship owners association KVNR wants the government to increase the tax deduction on its wages bill from 40% to 45% at a cost of €10m.

Despite a drop in demand for sea transport and a reduction in tariffs, the costs to ship owners have not fallen, says the KVNR.
