Security increased at Jewish buildings

Police are to step up security at the two Jewish schools in Amsterdam and at synagogues and other Jewish interests following a number of attacks in recent days, the Volkskrant reports on Monday.

‘People are frightened,’ Ron Eisenmann of the Jewish community in Amsterdam told the paper.
A Molotov cocktail caused a small fire at an auction house in Amsterdam at the weekend. The building also houses a synagogue. Windows were smashed in a synagogue in Haaksbergen last week and there was an arson attempt on a synagogue in Arnhem, Ronnie Naftaniel of the Israel documentation centre CIDI told the NRC.
On Sunday police arrested 10 people during a demonstration against the Israeli attacks on Gaza in the centre of The Hague, NOS tv reports. Those arrested were wearing clothes adorned with swastikas and chanted anti-semitic slogans, NOS said.
Some 1,500 people had gathered on the Malieveld – a large area of open ground close to parliament – to call on the Dutch government to take a harder line against Israel.
