Record New Year text messages sent

Text messages are fast replacing traditional Happy New Year phone calls, news agency Novum reports on Friday.

Vodafone reported a 52% increase in text messages around midnight, while T-Mobile saw a 33% rise. The two companies processed over 40 million messages between 10pm and 4am.

Figures from KPN and other providers are not yet available.
