New website leads to immediate arrest

A website launched on Monday by Amsterdam police featuring photos of convicted criminals who have not yet served their sentences has already resulted in one arrest, news agency Novum reports.

The website carries the details of 42 people including 11 with photo. All have been convicted of serious crimes such as rape, manslaughter and international drugs trading.
Many did not go to jail because they were released from custody before their trial and did not turn up in court, Novum said. Others failed to return to jail after special leave.
In total, some 50,000 people in the Netherlands either have unpaid fines or outstanding jail sentences, the NRC reports.
