State puts €30m into failing hospital

The government is to put €30m into the failing IJsselmeer hospital to ensure its recovery, says the NRC. This is nearly €6m more than original budgeted.

The hospital group, which has been bought by former radiologist Loek Winter’s MC Groep, has debts of €25m. Of this €14.6m was to be shouldered by health insurer Achmea and €9.5m by local and national government.
Achmea has now refused to pay its share, as has the local council, says the paper. The deal still has to be approved by the national health council.
Around 300 people will lose their jobs during the hospital’s reorganisation. And eight of the 48 specialists will be sacked.
