Investigate Holloway claims, Aruba told

Aruba’s justice minister Rudy Croes should begin an immediate investigation to determine if his claims about police interference in the investigation of the disappearance of Natalee Holloway are true, junior minister Ank Bijleveld told news agency ANP.

Bijleveld, who is in charge of the relationship with the Netherlands former colonies, said she could not force Croes to begin a probe, but said she found it odd he had only just come up with the allegations. The Netherlands was prepared to help with the investigation, Bijleveld said.
Last month Croes told ANP that Jan van der Straten, who was police commissioner on the Caribbean island when the US teenager disappeared in 2005, seriously hindered the investigation in the first few days.
Croes claimed Van der Straten was slow to take action in order to help his friend Paul van der Sloot protect his son Joran, who was suspected of being involved in the disappearance.
