The population of the Netherlands grew by 76,000 this year, largely due to new arrivals from other European Union countries, the national statistics office CBS said on Wednesday.

In 2007, the population grew by 30,000.
In total, 140,000 people moved to the Netherlands this year while 120,000 people left, the CBS said. It was the first time in five years that more people arrived in the Netherlands than left.
