More call outs to domestic 'incidents'
Monday 10 November 2008
The police were called to 65,000 domestic incidents in 2007, the council of chief police officers said on Monday. This is an increase of 3% on the previous year.
Of the recorded incidents, 27% were of a violent nature, the police chiefs said.
In 2007, 3,600 children between 0 to 13 were the victims of domestic violence.
Around 6.7% of victims were over 66 years old and the police officers expect domestic violence against the elderly to increase.
