Magic mushrooms banned from December

Friday 07 November 2008

The ban on the sale of fresh hallucinogenic mushrooms in Holland is set to come in on December 1, the AD newspaper reports on Friday.

The paper says ministers are expected to vote in favour of the plan at today’s cabinet meeting.

The sale of dry mushrooms in so-called smart shops is already banned.

Health minister Ab Klink said last year he planned to ban mushroom sales following a string of incidents involving tourists.

According to Amsterdam health service figures, ambulances were called out 128 times last year to deal with people who had eaten hallucinogenic mushrooms.

Too bad... Step by step small freedoms are being taken away.

Unfortunately another victory for the pharmacratic inquisition

( The Christian persecution of archaic religions based on sacramental ingestion of entheogenic plants and the consequent personal access to ecstatic states; whose first great victory was the destruction of the Eleusinian Mysteries at the end of the fourth century; which then reached a gruesome climax in the persecution of witches in the Middle Ages; and which continues in today's Pharmacratic State in the guise of a public health 'War on Drugs.')

It is part of the larger effort to control, dumb down, enslave and suppress people in one of the last liberal countries of the world.

Will it really happen? I remember they said this last year as well but nothing changed. If they do enforce the ban, then it will just push the sale underground. Or there will be an increase in the sale of grow-kits because I dont think they will be covered by the ban anyway.

Not mentioned that in 99% of the cases an ambulance was called it involved tourists. Not mentioned either that most of the times those tourist had been taken other drugs as well. Now we have to bleed for their irresponsible behaviour and that because of discrimination laws it's not possible to stop sales to tourists.
Just the stick Christians where looking for to try and beat this dog to death.

Just too bad, one of the last useful substance which gets banned just because of the other countries.
Its stupid that ppl come from abroad and then goin nuts on 'em especially young ppl, I personally think they should'nt be sold to people under 19, 20 anyways.
This is not for kids because its a tool and not a toy and their psyche as well as the conciousness is still young and evolving. However it can improve many people and also solve complicated problems, I've seen this - it helped me so much also.
However they wont improve anything, they're just stopping the flow of information and there always be ppl trying this even if they've no real reason or think this is just fun - this cant be avoided and as long as they dont teach them how to use and think of substances (drugs) at school most people will never be able to use them correclty, in the same way as just too many people get hooked by cigs or alcohol.

its such a disappointment that the powers that be can't see how prohibition does nothing but put the lives of our children in the hands of drug lords and street dealers. taxing such activities and using the proceeds to provide better health and education for the general community is the only solution. not supporting a global drug trade by driving the sale of such substances underground. wasted resources in an aging population and a war history has proven can not be won. end prohibition, save lives!!

128 is nothing compared to the people that go to hospital everyday due to alcohol, drugs and a lot of other stuff that is not forbidden.

i hate it that people cant visit there and respect the place i visited last year and its a beautiful city and it makes a bad name for the rest of there countries

128 seems quite low when you consider how many times an ambulance is called for an alcohol related problem. I would guess also these are problems related to young North American tourists who get over to Amsterdam and just go nuts and do too much of everything at one time. We've all seen it. I'm an American and am embarrassed to see how some of my countryman carry on.

First comes the demise of Christiania as we knew it, then we lost Switzerland's sale of cannabis, and now we are going to lose the Netherlands as well. The will now be no where in the world to just be free the religious who feign incredulity over almost anything even remotely controversial. Eel pie, much of the problems come not from drug tourists, but from the voetball (soccer) hooligans that come from all around Europe who come on the weekends, get drunk and make fools of themselves. The problem with the Dutch policy is that the Dutch did not do the leg work to get policy changes elsewhere to keep drug tourist from having to come at all. All good things usually come crashing down under it's own weight.
