Friesian speakers lobby for equal rights
Thursday 02 October 2008
Friesian speakers lobbied parliament yesterday in an effort to get their language included in the constitution, reports the Volkskrant.
A committee is currently looking into whether Dutch should be enshrined in the constitution as the official language of the Netherlands and Friesian speakers want equal rights.
Friesian has been a compulsory primary school subject in the northern province of Friesland since 1980, says the paper.
