Philips launches sex toy in Britain

Tuesday 09 September 2008

Electronics firm Philips, best known for making mundane household items such as televisions and light bulbs, is to launch a much more controversial product on the market this week – a vibrator.

According to the Telegraaf, this ‘piquant’ apparatus called the Warm Intimate Massager, will initially only be on sale in the UK. If the British market is ‘ecstatic’, the vibrator will go on sale in Dutch shops, it says.

Now this is controversial market news.
The astonishing decision of the world-wide company is getting both negative and positive evaluations.
Is this a versatile and dynamic reaction to growing demand for adult novelty toys, by a market-focused and consumer-targeted modern company? Or vice versa - a direct proof of low company values and profit orientation at any cost?
