Fortis may sell ABN Amro's diamond unit

Fortis has made discrete approaches to third parties who might be interested in buying ABN Amro's diamond activities, reports Belgian paper De Tijd.
Fortis took over the International Diamond and Jewellery Group when it bought parts of the Dutch banking group last year.
According to the Financieele Dagblad, the diamond unit is the world market leader in financing the diamond trade.
