Amsterdam cargo tram in doubt

Amsterdam’s cargo tram project is on the verge of collapsing because the city council will not put €5.6m into the cost of building new tram rails and a storage centre, the Parool newspaper reports on Thursday.

The CityCargo company says it has already raised €69m from companies such as energy firm Nuon and Rabobank.
A spokesman for the city council said it had never agreed to put money into the freight tram scheme and still has many questions about the project.
