Referee cleared of typhoid dog comment

Football referee Jack van Hulten has been cleared of insulting PSV player Ibrahim Afellay, a spokesman for the football association KNVB told news agency ANP on Friday.

Van Hulten was suspended for three matches by the KNVB last week after allegedly calling Afellay a ‘typhoid dog’ during a friendly match between VVV Venlo and PSV. Afellay did not file a complaint but the KNVB still decided to take steps.
The referee, who always denied the claim and said that he only called Afellay ‘a nasty type’, appealed against the decision and was cleared of the charges after eyewitness testimony, ANP reports.
