Home owners want uniform charges

The home owners organisation VEH has called on the cabinet to take action to ensure that local councils charge uniform fees for building permits.

On Thursday the VEH published its annual survey of the charges made by councils for building licences. As in previous years, it concluded that these vary enormously from place to place.
The residents of Voorschoten, for example, have to pay 21 times more than those in the nearby city of Leiden, says the VEH.
Voorschoten charges €698 for permission to add a dormer window at the top of a house while the council fees for the same home improvement in Leiden are €33, the lobby group says. The average national cost for this permit is €250, it says.
The organisation also objects to the fact that eight local councils make no charge at all for building licences saying this is unfair on residents elsewhere.
