Dutch only ones without flood insurance

The Dutch should be able to insure their homes against flooding, according to researchers at Amsterdam’s VU university, quoted by NOS tv.

The Netherlands is the only European country where flood insurances is not available, the NOS said.
The researchers say that if people are insured, they take more steps to avoid damage by, for example, moving central heating systems from the basement to the attic. This is partly due to demands laid down in the policy.
The Dutch insurance association says the government would have to help finance flood insurance because a flood can cause more damage than one insurer can cover, says the NOS.
