Small bars must obey smoking ban

Wednesday 09 July 2008

Small bars and cafés must comply with the smoking ban introduced on July 1, judges in The Hague said on Wednesday.

An alliance of small café owners had gone to court, arguing they were being unfairly affected by the ban which was introduced to protect staff. This was because they often had no personnel and no space for a separate smoking room, the alliance said.

Again I ask, how do you have a bar with no personnel? I suppose you put beer and peanuts in a vending machine next to the jukebox. Who unlocks the door at opening time and who locks the door at closing time? Lastly, where can I find one of these bars with no personnel? I'd lile to go take pictures of it.

There are lots of options.

1. Only 1 person owns/operates a bar.

2. Only 2 people who jointly own and operate the bar. They are not personnel they are owners.

3. any other scenario where everyone who works for a given establishment is also an owner

n response to dss: No you won't smell like crap indeed. You'll feel like crap and make others feel like they're crap after that long night of drinking. What a hypocrisy.

Does your liver smell like cirrhosis after a long night of drinking? Do the people in the street who have to put up with your intoxication feel well about it? There is no difference. I don't understand.

So an owner is not considered personnel? Interesting. I thought anyone who got paid by a business was considered personnel. I guess the dictionary definition of personnel doesn't apply in The Netherlands.

Why don't the Dutch just accept it like every other European country. This constant defiance they have is very childish and immature.
