MPs want citizenship test loophole closed

Thursday 17 July 2008

A large majority of MPs want the cabinet to take immediate steps to close the legal loophole which exempts people from non-Western countries coming to Holland to join husbands and wives from taking a citizenship test in their country of origin.

Earlier this week, judges in Amsterdam said the compulsory test did not have to be taken abroad by people coming to the Netherlands for family reasons.

'This demand is a vital part of the integration process,' Labour MP Jeroen Dijsselbloem told the AD.
Liberal (VVD) MP Henk Kamp told the AD he backed a ban on anyone with poor chances of finding work and who does not speak Dutch or English.

What a nightmare of a mess. How can this be? They are just now finding out that there was a blunder in the law? 3 years later after the fact? Didn't anyone read the law before passing it through the lower house? They should require politicians to be well educated with at least a degree in law before being allowed to run in office, this is one of many times a micky mouse law was overlooked and passed without reading what was legal and what was not legal. This is an embarrassment for a Western country to have such uneducated and stupid politicians that are too stupid to know what they sign before making it a law that is actually not even legal! In the United States, Canada, Austraila, all politicians have to be very well educated. Why don't you act like a real western country and educate yourselves before forcing others to educate. This is becoming a banana republic country, just like the USA! Now they have Bush, and this is what the Netherlands is starting to look like. Wake up!

I AM GLAD THAT THIS SUBJECT IS BEING LOOKED INTO . HOW ON EARTH DO THEY EXPECT ME TO TAKE A TEST IN DUTCH LANGUAGE IN AFRICA BEFORE I COME TO JOIN MY HUSBAND IN THE NETHERLANDS. NOBODY SPEAKS IT IN MY COUNTRY, SO WHO WILL TEACH ME NETHERLANDS IN AFRICA. MY HUSBAND SPEAKS NETHERLANDS AND I BELIEVE THAT THE INTERGRATION LANGUAGE CLASSES IS MEANT TO TEACH NEW MIGRANTS THE LANGUAGE. PLEASE BE CONSIDERATE IN YOR LAWS. GOD BLESS NETHERLANDS.

The court struck this down because it was *unfair*; not because it was a "loophole". Parliament was surprised only because someone dare to point out their idiocy.
