Foreign staff in more demand

Monday 14 July 2008

Some 54% of Dutch managers expect to recruit more highly-skilled foreigners to fill vacancies at their firms, according to research by interim jobs agency EssentialPeople, reports news agency ANP.

Foreign staff are popular because they speak good English, are well educated and have a good work ethic, the researchers say. In particular, the financial services and IT sector find it hard to get good staff.

as a foreign national working in banking IT in NL for the last 13 years, this is no surprise to me. The only people left in the office after 5pm are the foreigners.

The reason foreign national are the only ones still in the office after 5.00pm is because they have a work ethic. They understand deadlines and they fully grasp the importance of 'getting the job done'.

Dare I say that the Dutch are far more concerned with 'whats in it for them' whilst abdicating any sense of responsibilty to their colleagues and employer. Maybe I'm just old fashioned and maybe the Dutch will finally wake up when they see that all of the 'bosses' are expats. But hey, it won't be their fault!!
