Sharp growth in vegetable gardening

Tuesday 13 May 2008

The sale of vegetable seeds has overtaken flower seeds for the first time since World War II, the Telegraaf reports on Tuesday.

The paper says a sharp rise in vegetable prices – up 32% since 1996 – is the main reason for the growing popularity for home grown vegetables.

In Amsterdam there is a waiting list of 1,500 people for one of the city’s 6,000 allotments.
