Ending JSF role would cost €452m

Monday 26 May 2008

Ending Dutch involvement in the Joint Strike Fighter project would cost the Dutch government €452m, reports Monday's NRC Handelsblad.

The figure comes from an assessment by the defence ministry on the current situation in the US-led project to develop a successor to the F-16 fighter jet.

It follows a call from the Dutch aerospace industry for its contract with the government to cover any shortfall in the development of the JSF to be renegotiated. The new assessment says the shortfall has risen from €191m in 2002 to its current €225m.

MPs are due to debate taking part in the test phase of the JSF tomorrow.
