Explosive rise in child porn websites

Friday 11 April 2008

The number of child pornography websites distributed from the Netherlands has risen ‘explosively’, official monitors said on tv show Nova on Thursday night.

In 2006, some 100 sites were reported to the national child porn registry, but last year this had soared to 700, spokeswoman Liesbeth Groeneveld told the programme.

The director of one internet service provider – Leaseweb in Haarlem – told the show he had removed such sites in the past. The company operates 11,000 servers supporting hundreds of thousands of websites.

Last August it emerged that internet providers KPN, XS4all and Tiscali are refusing to block or remove websites which carry child pornography.

The national police force published a blacklist of sites publishing child pornography at the beginning of 2007 and asked providers to block access. Only cable company UPC has done so, but even its filter does not work properly, news agency ANP said on Friday.

When The Netherlands recognized The Brotherly Love, Freedom and Diversity Party as a legitimate political party, what did they expect?

For those of you who don't know, The Brotherly Love, Freedom and Diversity Party is a political party in The Netherlands whose platform is to lower the age of sexual consent from 16 to 12, legalize child pornography, and re-legalize bestiality.

Bestiality was outlawed in The Netherlands on March 14, 2008. Prior to that, bestiality was only illegal if it could be proven that the animal suffered. In August of 2007, a man in the city of Haaksbergen had his case dismissed because the sheep he was caught having sex with could not testify against him.

If the Dutch government really wanted to make a statement against child pornography, they would arrest and prosecute the executives of the ISPs who host child pornography websites. How is making child pornograhpy available on the Internet any different than distributing pictures to customers over by hand? While the ISPs may not create pornography, they are certainly involved in the distrubution.

This so-called pedophile party is totally unimportant. The age of consent for sex was 12, until the §240 was changed in autumn 2002.
Minimum age for porn was also 16, until they raised it to 18.
Bestiality is still legal, until the law will pass the 2nd chamber.

A part of the so-called raise in childporn may have his origin in stricter laws now. Is material with 15-17 year old Teenagers really childporn ? I dont think so.
The former minimum age for porn in NL was 16, it was 15 in DK. Is this material already confiscated ? I dont think so too. But this is shrouded in mystery. I really hope, that the dutch press will differentiate a little more in the future. Skyrocketing figures arent very informative, if the reader doesnt know, which material is seizured.

More and more stricter laws will result in higher and higher crime rates.
If this goes on, porn will be banned totally until 2012.
