Wilders' film released on internet

The controversial anti-Koran short film by anti-immigration Dutch MP Geert Wilders was finally released on the internet on Thursday evening.

The film Fitna can be seen via a link from Wilders PVV party to the video-share website Liveleak.com. According to the NRC the English version of the film was viewed by 200,000 visitors within an hour.

The first 10 minutes of the 17-minute film consist of a compilation of video fragments showing the victims of terrorist attacks in New York, Madrid and London. This is interspersed with translations of verses from the Koran and recordings of Islamic leaders calling for violence against non-believers.

In the last five minutes, Wilders focuses on Islam in the Netherlands. There are images of blocks of flats dotted with satellite dishes, policemen removing their shoes before entering a mosque, recordings of preaching and a selection of newspaper headlines.

Then comes Wilders’ vision of ‘the future of the Netherlands’ featuring archive footage of (gay) men being hanged, robed women and a dismembered woman's body.

The film ends with the sound of a ripping page referring to Wilders' earlier call on Muslims to tear out pages from the Koran. But immediately after the sound, a text appears explaining that what you can hear is a page being ripped out of a telephone book.

In an initial reaction Wilders says he is ‘extremely happy’ that the video has been launched, reports the NRC. ‘I want to show that Islam is a test for us. If we want to maintain our freedom, we need to have less Islam in the Netherlands’, he is quoted by the paper as saying. He also claims he has made a ‘clear distinction between ideology, Islam and Muslims. ‘I have nothing against Muslims’, he said.

ANP news service reports Wilders as saying that he can imagine that Muslims will not be happy with the film but that he has ‘stayed true to the facts’. The PVV leader added that he hopes Fitna will not lead to rioting saying this is not the film’s intention. Wilders says the aim is to show people the dangers of the Koran and Islam, says ANP.

Three cheers to Geert Wilder for his courage in releasing the Fitna. I know what is said and shown in the movie is whole truth about Islam (I have hard copy and computer quranic software). I have checked numrous websites includinh "jihadwatch.com" to see what they have to say about Fitna. Everybody says it is truth.

All the statements and scenes are from current news sources. The quotes from the Koran are accurate. If there is rioting or other actions it will NOT be Mr. Wilder's fault, but that of the rioters and others.

Perhaps we all need to read or re-read the Koran. My President, Mr. Bush, must have missed it. The Koran does not present Islam as a Religion of Peace, but of War and Conquest.

If most Muslims are not violent then the film should not offend them. Thanks to Mr. Wilder for his courage to offer this film. I await the release on DVD.

In what sense is this film the "truth". It would be equally possible to compile a video of outrages committed by Christians, or acts of kindness from Muslims.

Wilders is a racist playing the usual racist game. Those who would like to see a return to the golden years of Nazism should support the film.

the rest of us should be wary of appeals to slippery concepts such as "truth" and "rights" and make it clear that we want a society in which people accept each others' differences, are respectful, and do our best to get along.

I am a Muslim and I was very curious and watched this film myself. I can tell you that the movie is not as bad as I have anticipated it. Personally, I havent found anything disgraceful.

On the contrary, I found some parts being right, like killings and violence, which are made in the name of God(Allah), which I don't support.

Really, I think the idealogy and mentality of the people need to be changed. Being a Muslim, frankly I am shameful for such actions.

His argument would carry more weight if he hadn't restricted himself to Islam — theology is what needs to go. Of course, try telling that to a Christian (Hey, Geert! The Bible's full of crap too!), they're the good guys after all.

If we follow Geert logic, the first terrorists are Jews (romains) who crucified Jesus, who killed muslims when islam start.

What about Nazis who killed jews? they were christian too, can we say the christian are terrorists? what about americans and israeliens killing hundred of irakian and palestinian each day, can we say that jews and christian are terrorists? what about serbian killing muslims in Serbia, Kosovo and so on, can we say that christian are terrorists?

Geert is simply an ignorant, looser on political side who want to be recognized and known, the only way for him is to create polemic, that's it.

Creating instability in the world, do you not care that are many people in the world trying bridging differences?? with this you hampered their efforts. was it nice to spend our effort to seek road to harmony than creating hatred and revenge?

I would agree with Junert and dave's comments. this is the time we need to bridge differences among international communities not spreading hatred. Also, We should NOT judge a religion from its followers; followers can be ignorant about the teachings of the religion. These terrorist videos Mr Wilder has used represent a minority of Muslims who have been declared, IGNORANT and spreading MISCONCEPTIONS, by the leading Muslim scholars.

You cannot really take an excerpt from a book and judge rest of it without taking into account the context.Similarly it is not fair to judge 1.61 billion Muslims around the world by the acts of only few thousands so called Muslims.
