Wilders edits film to remove mistakes

Monday 31 March 2008

Right-wing MP Geert Wilders is to amend his anti-Islam film Fitna in an attempt to avoid legal action, news agency ANP reports on Monday.

Wilders wants to replace the photograph of a Dutch rapper with that of the real killer of film-maker Theo van Gogh. Rapper Salah Edin has threatened to go take legal action because his picture was mistakenly used in the film.

Secondly, the use of a cartoon showing Mohammed with a bomb in his turban will be removed from Fitna after protests from the Danish cartoonist Kurt Westergaard who did not give permission for his work to be used in the film.

However, now that LiveLeak.com has dropped the film, Wilders has a problem getting the corrected version into circulation. 'I will do my utmost to get the revised version into the public domain,' Wilders told ANP.

Wilder, you might as well remove all the clips you got from different news. CNN and other news agencies might sue you for copying them also. Then you are left with only the scripts of Quran. May be you can make a power point of it. Don't have to worry about LiveLeak as you can just send as email attachment.

You are so irresponsible. There is no future in confrontation. Look for the common ground and co-habitate peacefully, Geert.

I hope he also removed the music from the Nutcracker Suite. That was an odd choice!

I think that Wilders was testing the censorship practices of the Dutch government. This "movie" is simply a political tool. If the government had censored it, Wilders and his party (the PVV)appears to be the victim. Since the film was aired, he and the PVV achieve a minor objective in publicizing their extremist views. So essentially Wilders and his party wins politically. Wilders is a very smart politician...but a very poor filmmaker. I think the poor quality of Fitna ultimately detracts from its importance and the extremist views it tries to convey. Nice try Wilders but the film blows and even some Muslim extremists found it somewhat juvenile and transparent in it inflammatory intent.

It will be interesting to see how freely
Wilders will be able to speak in The Netherlands and for how long, remember freedom of speech is a right , I don,t think infringing on copyrights of other artists work is classy, but I'd be very curious to see his work anyway. Speak the truth and the truth shall set you free.
