Wilders will show film to anti-terrorism tzarTuesday 04 March 2008 Anti-Islam MP Geert Wilders says he will allow the Dutch anti-terrorism coordinator to see his controversial anti-Koran film before it is released, but only on condition that the viewing is not used as an excuse to ban it, NOS tv reports on Tuesday. Earlier the Telegraaf said Wilders had refused to show the 10-minute film to Tjibbe Joustra, who is responsible for Wilders' security. Wilders also blamed prime minister Jan Peter Balkenende for ‘all the trouble to come’, according to NOS. Balkenende is a ‘weak, frightened man who gives way to threats’, Wilders, leader of the PVV anti-immigration party said. On Friday Balkenende urged Wilders to consider the consequences of broadcasting his film, saying he was seriously worried about the effect it could have on Dutch citizens, soldiers and companies. Meanwhile, the Telegraaf reports that the general public seem to be happy to book holidays to Muslim countries despite the threats. Louis Frankenhuis head of the travel agency OAD Reizen says destinations such as Egypt, Turkey and Indonesia are very popular this year. © DutchNews.nl Get the DutchNews.nl newsletter in your mailbox: Click here to subscribe
Premier Balkenende will be breaking the law if he forbids this film to air on Dutch TV . "Vrijheids van Menings Uiting " (Freedom of Speech) is an integral part of Hollands Constitution , and if Jan Peter Balkenende thinks he can repeal this law , or circumvent it then it is time for him to step down , and leave the work of being Hollands President to those who recognize the reality of culture and law and hold those values above religions and superstition. By JPC | March 5, 2008 5:12 PM Is Geert really anti-Islam? I believe he stated he was not...but this paper used anti- three times in the first sentence alone...use it properly - stop inciting violence By Van | March 5, 2008 5:38 PM Place your comments: |

This is quite surrealistic. In the old days, politicians were elected for their abilities to protect decent people against violent intimidators. Things seem to have changed - a lot!
Of course we have the right to critizise religions, even violent ones. I'm pretty sure that Balkenende could have benefited the situation immensely by saying something like:
"Movie? What movie? Oh, a small one about the Quran? Sure, bring it on. Muslims in the Netherlands are well integrated and peaceful, the violent ones are mere fringe groups, and our police as well as the Muslims at large are perfectly able to keep those violent fringes at bay."
Instead, Balkenende seems to assume that all Muslims are violent religious fanatics. This is, for anyone who knows just a handful of normal Muslims, false. Most Muslims just care about their family, making a living and really want to stay out of trouble.
Balkenende, in all his fear and wavering, is doing no service to the peaceful Muslims either.
New and better policitianc, please. They must exist.
