Police call off industrial action

Leaders of two of the police unions, including the biggest, are to meet with the home affairs minister on Thursday to discuss their latest pay offer, reports ANP news service on Thursday morning.

The meeting is announced on the websites of the largest union, NPB, and ACP.

The police decided late on Wednesday afternoon to call off further industrial action planned for this week in support of their long-running pay claim. Earlier this week they had threatened to hold up traffic by driving slowly on major roads.

Although the police still consider the government’s final offer – an increase of €120m on earlier figures – inadequate, they realise no more money is available.

Three of the four unions involved in the dispute will recommend that their members reject the new offer while the VMHP will advise their members to accept it.

The deal requires two of the four unions to vote in favour for it to be implemented, says the Volkskrant.
