Socialist leader attacks Wilders, Verdonk

Former Liberal MPs Geert Wilders and Rita Verdonk both now fall into the ‘extreme right-wing’ camp, Socialist Party leader Jan Marijnissen said at a party meeting on Saturday, reports Monday’s Volkskrant.

Marijnissen said Wilders, who now leads his own anti-immigration PVV party, was dangerous because he differentiated between people on religious grounds.
On Friday, prime minister Jan Peter Balkenende also blamed Wilders for rising tension in Dutch society.
Meanwhile, GroenLinks leader Femke Halsema used her weblog to criticize the way fellow MPs were denigrating each other. ‘If you think he (Wilders) is dangerous because of the way he uses such general stigmatisations, why do you do the same to him?’ Halsema wrote.
