Police plans to bring in tasers delayed

The home affairs ministry is setting up an extra investigation into the effect of electroshock weapons, or tasers, on pregnant women, children and people with heart problems.

Dutch police want to introduce tasers, which are discharged from a distance, saying they will not have to draw their guns as often.
‘Research has shown they do not have any consequences for healthy people but we don’t know about other vulnerable groups,’ said ministry spokesman Frank Wassenaar in the AD on Tuesday. ‘We do see the advantages of such a weapon but we need to be certain.’
In the US and Canada there have been several deaths connected to the use of tasers, the paper says.
