No delay for tax returns, says minister

The 730,000 people who have to refile tax returns because of computer failings will not get an extension to the April 1 deadline, the Financieele Dagblad reports on Thursday.

The paper says junior finance minister Jan Kees de Jager told MPs there is still enough time to meet the deadline. ‘If we had been up against it, we would have looked at a longer period, but now there is enough time.’
The tax office assumes most people affected by the problem will have kept a copy of their return on their computer.
The minister told MPs yesterday he was extremely sorry about the problems, caused by a software failure. It is the latest in a string of IT problems to hit the tax office.
