Natalee affair hits Aruban economy

Wednesday 06 February 2008

The disappearance of American teenager Natalee Holloway and the ensuing police investigation has cost the former Dutch colony of Aruba tens of millions of dollars in lost income from American tourists.

The comment was made by the island's prime minister Nelson Oduber on the Dutch tv current affairs show Nova on Tuesday evening. Aruba’s economy depends for 70% on US tourists, he said.

Isnt it sad that if Joran would have just called for help - or just admitted what happened- the new would have been murdered OD whatever girl in Aruba.

Beth would have grieved and gone on in life and all the bad feelings and economic problms would have never occured. .

But NO as a son of a lawyer he shut his mouth and played stupid. THEN wrote a book hoping for the mystery to be solved(HOW SICK) BUT sickest!! is profiting by sueing Aruba after all he cost them.

I am not loosing any sleep over this! Has Aruba done anything since this story started to improve its police force? Or are they just as dopey as when it started?

Can Aruba's Prime Minister's remark about losing American tourist dollars be read as an indirect message to the police and courts of Aruba? "Find someone convincing to punish so that the Americans will start coming back to Aruba." Here in Alabama we hope that the prosecutors and police will not let Yoran slip through their fingers.
