Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport has been ordered to lower the tariffs it charges airlines for take-offs, landings and transfer flights.

The ruling by the competition authority NMa will cost the airport €36.8m, almost 6% of the income Schiphol expected to generate from tariffs, reports the Financieele Dagblad on Friday. Schiphol’s total turnover in 2006 was €1bn.
The case against Schiphol was brought by national carrier KLM which claimed the airport had not taken into account all the financial factors it was obliged to when calculating its annual aviation tariffs.
