More research into medical marijuana

Wednesday 07 November 2007

Research into the medicinal effects of cannabis should be continued for a further five years, health minister Ab Klink said on Wednesday.

The extension means there is a serious chance a medicine with cannabis as a raw material can be developed, a ministry spokesman said.

People have been able to buy cannabis on prescription since 2003. The marijuana is grown under government supervision.

According to the government's official medicinal cannabis website, it is used to help patients with problems with spasticity, chronic pain, who are undergoing chemo- or radiotheraphy and with Gilles de la Tourette syndrome.

What about nausea? The smoking of cannabis gives immediate relief of nausea and with quality grade medical marijuana with a THC content of at least 20%, it is the safest most effective anti nausea medication known to man.

I have 2 Diabetic Neuropathic diseases that both effect my digestive system leaving me in a constant 24/7 state of nausea with increased intense waves of nausea throughout my waking and sleeping hours.

Nausea from chemo is bad but it will go away when chemo is stopped. Not so with my diseases called GERDS & GastroParesis, which means "Paralyzed Stomach" resulting in delayed stomach emptying which leads to nausea to finally a 12-24 hour vomiting session leaving me so weak it takes 48 hours to recover from.

I use marijuana for chronic pain and other manifestations of Spina Bifida. It helps most with bladder spasms and the effects of bi-polar disorder.

I'm one of those who goes more down than up and it really helps me level out. Occasionally I wonder if maybe I like it too much and use these things as an excuse to smoke cannabis, then I run out.

The spasms get incredibly painful, the pain in my back becomes crippling and in a couple of weeks, I could be in a full blown depression. The effects of not using cannabis are fairly quick, taking no more than two weeks to reach their nadir.

I'vd done a lot of research on this miracle plant and can't understand what's so scary about it. The only thing that frightens me about using it is the law. That's pathetic.

I am also hooked on pain meds, as well, but my consumption goes down if I have my other "meds". Also, I don't use as many psych drugs or antispasmodics, such as valium, a drug that really does scare me.

We live in a society that still has views that still need to be challenged. I too am disabled. I have spina bifida. The humid weather here in Canada is killer for people with afflictions like mine and sufferers of crippling bone ailments like scoliosis or arthritis. Smoking the drug eases tension, relaxes spastic motions and above all keeps me upbeat, rather ironic considering it's a depressant.

I fear that challenging the law is now, for this issue at least, a necessity. I just smoked a hash joint in front of two police cars that drove by, they looked at me and drove away... No big deal, so long as I stay civilised and don't disturb the peace.
