Minister to announce €1bn windfall

A financial windfall of €1bn could be announced by finance minister Wouter Bos today, reports the Financieele Dagblad, quoting sources close to the government.

Bos is expecting increased revenues from taxes on natural gas and income as a result of high oil prices (to which gas prices are linked) and a healthy economy, the paper says.
The windfall would mean the budget deficit would fall from the 0.4% announced in September to 0.2%.
The Netherlands has also been given a €3bn rebate from the European Commission but this has already been worked into the 2007 budget, the paper said.
