Anton Philips auction doubles valuation

Tuesday’s auction of part of the Anton Philips’ collection brought in €3m at Christie’s in Amsterdam, double the original valuation, reports ANP news service.


One buyer paid €72,000 for a silver beaker and two tin ‘Jan Steen’ mugs fetched €33,000, 27 times their catalogue price.
The highest price was paid for an 18th century Meissen 191-piece service which went for €132,000.
Anton Philips, who died in 1951, turned the light bulb maker founded by his father and uncle into the global electronic concern of today.
