Willem-Alexander and Máxima arrive in Bhutan

Prince Willem-Alexander and princess Máxima arrived in the Himalyan kingdom of Bhutan on Saturday to a spectacular welcome by the uncrowned king Jigme, reports the Volkskrant on Monday.

The 27-year-old king had prepared a ceremonial welcome for the state visit with beautiful Bhutan costumes, traditional musical instruments and flags everywhere, the paper says.
Máxima made a slight curtsey, a reverence, to the young king, who will be officially crowned next year.
Following the welcome ceremony, the prince and princess visited an institute for traditional medicine where medicine is made from herbs, minerals and even pearls, the Volkskrant reports. The visit was followed by lunch with king Jigme’s father and his four wives.
The royal Dutch couple flew into Bhutan from India where they had accompanied queen Beatrix on her state visit.
