Poll rise for Rita Verdonk

Monday 22 October 2007

Rita Verdonk's brand new politicial movement Trots op Nederland (proud of the Netherlands) would take 23 seats if there was a general election tomorrow, according to the latest Maurice de Hond opinion poll.

Only the Christian Democrats would have more seats – a total of 34. The CDA currently has 41.

While Geert Wilders' anti-immigration PVV would take 12 seats (it currently has nine) its support has halved since Verdonk set up ToN, the poll shows.

Is this the start of the rise of fascism in the Netherlands as we have seen in Switzerland?. The dark clouds of 1939 are starting to form over Europe again.

Paul Smith can you explain what you mean by that comment? Rita Verdonk is not anti-semitism.

I believe that the concern of many people is that Rita Verdonk is xenophobic. She takes extreme positions against anyone who is not pure Dutch. Her recent comment that Polish workers in the Netherlands should return "home" after a few months is just one example.
