Police want higher penalties
Friday 19 October 2007
Amsterdam police have asked the courts for increased powers to handle troublemakers in the suburb of Slotervaart.
‘If we arrest youths and they are back on the street again in a couple of days, it makes it very hard to deal with them,’ commissioner Hans Schönfeld told the AD on Friday.
Another car was set on fire in the neighbourhood on Thursday night, news agency ANP reported. There have been disturbances in Slotervaart since Sunday when police shot dead a man who had attacked two officers with a knife.

The police should be given the increased powers to handle troublemakers and should also be given a raise in salary since they risk their lives taking on these trouble- makers that have no respect for the law.
Look what happend to the officers that were stabbed recently by one of these thugs.
