MPs want less community service

Judges are too quick to impose community service sentences on people convicted of serious crimes such as rape and attempted murder – crimes which should only ever be given a prison term, according to a majority of MPs. .


The right-wing Liberal party is working on its own legislation to stop community service being given to anyone convicted of a crime with a jail sentence of over six years attached.
TV current affairs programme Zembla reported at the weekend that judges regularly break sentencing guidelines for serious crimes
