Most people unconcerned about pensions

Most people are not concerned about their pensions, according to research by the national institute for budget information (Nibud), reports Monday’s Volkskrant.

Most people are more interested in what they have to spend today rather than tomorrow, say the researchers. Around 25% of people in their 30s say they have a pension plan. For those in their 50s, the percentage rises to 50%.
The only people who do worry about their financial future are people in their 50s with a higher education and a monthly income of over €3,000, says Nibud.
Hardly anyone saves money to pay off their mortgage or early retirement although 70% of the population do put away an average of €300 a month for an unspecified purpose. However, 40% of those who earn less than the average net income of €1,700 are unable to save.
