Only one in 10 Dutch workers can do their job properly without a computer, according to a new survey by research group Trendbox.

And 69% have to sit twiddling their thumbs if their computer breaks down because they are totally dependent on it, the survey of 500 people shows. Men aged 25 to 34 and people on higher incomes are the most likely to be lost during a computer breakdown.
Some 90% of workers have a computer at work and internet access. But 25% of those polled said they could carry on working without internet. One third said it was impossible to work without it and the rest said the lack of internet slowed their progress.
Meanwhile, Dutch consumers association Consumentenbond has received 4,200 complaints about the new Microsoft computer system Windows Vista over the past four weeks. In 59% of cases, old programmes no longer work. Some 46% of complaints focus on problems with printers and other add-ons.
Microsoft said almost one million people in the Netherlands were aware of the new system and the number of complaints was minimal.
