NATO sacks two women for Muslim marriage

Monday 27 August 2007

Two Dutch women who recently married young Muslims from Tunisia have lost their jobs at the NATO base at Gellenkirchen in Germany, close to the Dutch border.

The Defence Ministry confirmed to the Volkskrant on Monday that its AIVD security service has banned the women from the base.

Gellenkirchen is the home base for AWACS planes with their airborne warning and control systems, which are used in the international fight against terrorism.

One of the women is taking legal action to get her job back. The other is the secretary to acting commander Jelle Zijlstra who told Saturday's Telegraaf that the women had given years of loyal service.

I am so shocked at how the Dutch are starting to react. Do they believe that singling out regular everyday muslims will make their lives safer. At best you might make more adverse members of your society.

I`m glad that I am an American Muslim. I married a young lady from another country and my son married a Dutch girl and we were not kicked out of our jobs.

This is very disturbing. I am glad I am British Muslim. They usually say that Muslims do not like the non-muslims. I think it is quite the opposite

This is certainly not the way towards building community cohesion and sustaining social stability. This irresponsible action will encorouge racist groups to follow suit in targeting minority groups in Europe.

What does NATO think about Arab coutries terminating the jobs of hundreds of thousands of Europeans working in Dubai, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, Morocco, Kuwait, Algeria etc.. (simply because they belong to another culture, or have a different world view!!!).

Certainly it does not make sense.
