Gorilla Bokito back in the open air

Bokito, the gorilla who escaped from his enclosure at Blijdorp Zoo in Rotterdam in May attacking a woman and terrorising visitors before being recaptured, has been allowed outdoors again for the first time today.

The zoo, which was not prosecuted for the escape of Bokito but is facing damage claims from the woman mauled by the gorilla, has spent the last few months increasing safety measures.
The wall separating the gorilla from the public is now five metres high and the ditch between the enclosure and the public has been made deeper. The changes have alreadty cost the zoo half a million euros and further improvements are still in the pipeline.
Bokito has become something of a celebrity since going on the rampage on May 18.
