LPF to disband on New Year’s Day 2008

Members of the political party List Pim Fortuyn (LPF) voted at their annual meeting on Saturday to disband the party on January 1 2008. Of the members who turned up, 30 voted to disband and 26 to continue.

The LPF was founded by the Rotterdam politician Pim Fortuyn in February 2002. On May 6 the outspoken party leader was murdered. Nine days later the party won 26 seats in the general election. It’s support has since collapsed and the party now has no MPs and just a handful of local authority councillors.
